Since my blog isn't just about fashion and style, we're exploring the world of beauty with our lovely feature of the day Shannel! Check out her Friday Feature interview.
Name: Shannel Barnes for Volti
Age: 23City/State: Virginia Beach, VA
Q: Describe your personal makeup style.
A: My personal makeup style
varies. I match my makeup looks to my outfit and my mood. Sometimes I'll just
have subtle color on my eyes with a light colored lip gloss to match. Other days
I opt for a super dramatic smokey eye with a red wine colored lip. It all
depends on how I'm feeling!
Q: Who inspires you?
A: Makeup artists who inspire me are YouTube sensation "Petrilude", celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, and Theresa Francine. Inspirations for makeup looks come from life itself. I've remade popular looks with a personal twist, focused on a certain color, and even taken ideas from followers.
A: I do more than just "beauty" makeup. I also do the more artistic "hairshow" makeup. So my current obsession on the artistic side is the Bye Nye color wheels. They go on so smooth and they blend very well together with your choice of eyeshadows. My current obsession on the beauty makeup end is my Kat Von D eyeliner pens. I recently purchased a 3 pack with different tips on each and completely fell in love!! You can get as close to your lash line as you want. The different tips also allow you to make the perfect winged liner!
Q: Your go-to shops?
A: I have a few different
stores/shops/sites that I frequent for my "makeup stash". Most of my eyeshadow
palettes are from Coastal Scents. They are highly pigmented and are way beyond
affordable. Sephora is my go to store for my higher end brands such as Makeup
ForEver, Smashbox, and their self-labeled brand. I also shop at Ulta quite a bit.
They sell a few higher end brands (Urban Decay, Too Faced, etc.) and also sell
the "drug store" brands such as CoverGirl, Revlon, and L'oreal.
A: When I shop for makeup and makeup tools, my strategy is "If it's cheaper and it works just as good, buy it!" Most people believe that you have to have all high end brands to make your face look amazing. You really don't! It's all about knowing how to apply your product. I have such a variety in my kit and most clients are surprised. If the $6 Revlon lipstick looks just as good and stays on just as long as the YSL $32 shade, why not get the Revlon?!?
Q: Your latest purchase?
A: My latest purchase was the full line
of Maybelline Color Tattoos. The line has 10 shades of this cream like shadow,
similar to MAC's paint pots. I had previously purchased 4 shades to test out.
Once I was head over heels, I went and purchased the rest of the line. I'll have
to say it's one of the best drug store makeup products out!!
Q: Who's your beauty crush?
A: My beauty crush isn't a person.
It's more of a "type". I am completely in love with High Fashion editorial
makeup. You can be daring, dramatic, and super artistic or go with a flawless
beauty look and both are completely acceptable. That pretty much sums up my type
of artistry!
Q: Favorite brand?
A: My favorite brands depends on
which part of the face we're discussing. Primer: Black Radiance or Smashbox.
Foundation: liquid is Makeup ForEver; powder is MAC. Eyeshadow primer: Urban
Decay. Eyeshadow: palettes for Coastal Scents. Eyeliner: Maybelline Eye Studio
gel liner. Mascara; L'oreal Voluminous Million lashes. Brow fill-in: Ardell Brow
palette or NYX brow pencil. False Lashes: Ardell. Lip products: lipstick is
Revlon Lip Butter; lip gloss is Stila.
A: I don't follow the "latest makeup trend" too much. To me, you're the happiest when you're most comfortable. Certain trends don't work for everyone so why follow it? I may use a color that's in season or put a personal twist on a trend but I tend to go with what works for me or my clients. Why follow a trend when you can start your own movement?
Q: Any beauty tips for The Chic Bizarre Effect readers?
A: Test out more products, styles, and colors!! Most people tend to be stuck with a
certain look. You'll never know what works for you if you don't try!
Thanks Shannel! Keep painting those faces!!!
